Williamsburg!

Ellen and I took a mother-daughter roadtrip to Colonial Williamsburg this weekend! We arrived early Saturday morning and got busy touring all the trade shops and historic buildings. When lunchtime came, we were hungry (and hot!) and were ready to enjoy some fried chicken at King's Arms Tavern.

After lunch, we toured some more and stopped under the shade of a tree to watch the Fifes and Drums march from the Capitol to the Governor's Palace.

After an hour of cooling off in our hotel room, we went back out for a special evening program at the Governor's Palace about colonial dancing! How fun to see all the costumes and the different dances! This was a participatory program--so we each took a turn learning one of the dances!

Lunch at Chownings Tavern on Sunday, so we could compare this tavern for the "ordinary sort" with yesterday's tavern for the genteel.
