Ellen turned 7 on January 24!! We surprised Ellen with a very special present--a gift card for an American Girl doll and a trip to the American Girl Place in New York City! Mom, Dad and Ellen took the train from New Jersey to NYC for the day. Ellen picked a doll--Lanie, the 2010 Girl of the Year. Ellen had seen Lanie in the catalog; when she saw the picture of the doll with long blonde hair, bangs, and hazel eyes and read that she, like Ellen, loves the outdoors, Ellen exclaimed, "Mommy, it's me!!!" So it was no surprise that she selected Lanie!
After shopping in the store, we took Lanie and Ellen to the American Girl cafe for lunch! Lanie sat in her own booster seat and enjoyed a delicious lunch with us. The cafe was decorated in pink and with daisies and proved to be a wonderful experience!
After lunch, we took the elevator to the top of the Rockefeller building to see the city!! It was a beautiful, clear day. We even spotted a quite tiny Lady Liberty!
